Dairy & milk processing plant

Enter the milk the dairy handles in a day. The list below is what that implies — reception and chilling, separator, homogeniser, pasteuriser, silos, filling and CIP — with a rate column you fill in yourself.

How this works →

Your figures

Reception peaks morning and evening; processing runs between.

Milk contact is stainless as a rule — 304 is standard, 316 where whey or acid CIP is involved.

Raw milk held before processing.

The balance goes out in cans, bottles or as bulk cream.

Material take-off

What to buy, at what size, and how many — worked out from the figures above.

Rates

Every line is estimated from those two figures: its steel — or steel-equivalent — mass at the steel rate, stainless at 3.2×, plus its install days at the labour rate. There is no price feed behind this, so the two anchors are seeded from typical Pakistan figures as of September 2026 and are yours to correct. Type over any individual rate and yours is used instead.

Questions

Why is reception sized at twice the processing rate?
Because milk arrives in peaks, morning and evening, and a tanker waiting at the dock is a tanker not collecting. The reception, chilling and raw silos absorb the peak; the process line downstream of them runs at a steady rate.
Does the material choice really matter here?
Yes, and it is not a free choice: milk contact is stainless as a rule, and choosing mild steel in the picker gives you a figure for comparison rather than a plant you can legally run. 304 is standard; 316 is specified where whey, acid CIP or salt are involved.
Why is CIP such a large item?
Because a dairy is cleaned more often than it runs. Three tanks of caustic, acid and rinse, with the heater, pumps, valves and controls to circulate them through every vessel and line, is a substantial plant in its own right and is frequently left out of first estimates.
What is not included?
The cold store, the boiler and refrigeration plant, effluent treatment, the laboratory, crates and the building. Powder, cheese, butter and UHT are separate plants — this is the liquid milk line.
